ID card labeled 'the Designer' — Figma, FigJam, Claude, Adobe — a photo of Avery, and a short handwritten bio.

Hi, I’m Avery!

My path to UX wasn’t exactly straightforward. I studied journalism and communications before finding my way into visual design, technology. Eventually, I realized I kept coming back to the same question: how can we make things easier for people to understand and use?

At Barclays, I managed a high-volume design queue and coordinated an internal branding program from research through evaluation. Now, I’m most interested in understanding what people actually need before deciding what to design.

I like design when there’s a reason behind it. I’d rather test an idea than assume it works, and let research settle the argument.

Lately, I’ve been working through my M.S., playing The Big Walk, PEAK, and Minecraft, obsessing over lisianthus, and listening to way too much Audrey Hobert.

Outside the screen I love…

Floral design

Putting flowers together in a bouquet is kind of its own puzzle. What colors? What shapes? What ribbon? And somehow, when done right, everything is unique but immediately understood.

Chasing symmetry

There's something satisfying about lines that repeat. I'll stop mid-walk for a good arch or a reflection that lines up just right.

My shadow

Wherever I go, she's not far behind. Mid-belly rub, mid-zoomies, or just waiting by the door, she's got a lot of opinions about my schedule.

Finding color

I'll always detour for a good mural. Bright walls, weird angles, the occasional awkward selfie. It's a small excuse to notice a city.

Wildlife

Geese are surprisingly great subjects. Zero self-consciousness, constant drama, and they never ask to see the photo first.

Add a piece of yourself here!

Design, to me, is equal parts spark and gathering place. It dreams things into being and draws people in close.
